Referring to us is easy.
Movement Mechanics accepts referrals from physiotherapists, podiatrists, GPs, sports physicians, surgeons and other health professionals for EMS DolorClast® Radial and Focused Shockwave Therapy.
Our role can be very specific: assess the indication, determine whether shockwave is appropriate, select the most suitable treatment approach and communicate relevant findings back into the wider management plan.
You do not need to decide whether radial or focused shockwave is required before referring.
You also do not need to complete another lengthy form if you already have a clinical note or referral letter.

Referral Should Take Less Than a Minute
If you already have a referral letter, clinical note or imaging report, simply send it.

We only need the patient's name and contact details, your details, and a brief reason for referral. If the clinical information is already contained in an attachment, there is no need to type it again.
Once received, we can contact the patient directly to arrange their appointment.

Radial or Focused? You Do Not Need to Decide.
Movement Mechanics provides both EMS Swiss DolorClast® Radial Shockwave Therapy and EMS DolorClast® Focused Shockwave Therapy.
We do not view focused shockwave as an automatic upgrade from radial treatment.
Where the target can be adequately reached and appropriately dosed, radial shockwave can provide an effective mechanical stimulus. Focused delivery is particularly useful when the target is deeper, highly localised, bone-related, or associated with a discrete calcific deposit.
The decision is based on the diagnosis, anatomy, tissue irritability, previous treatment and therapeutic objective. In many musculoskeletal indications, we combine the two.
When a Shockwave Referral May Be Useful
Common referrals include persistent plantar heel pain, lateral or medial elbow tendinopathy, selected Achilles and patellar tendinopathy, gluteal and proximal hamstring presentations, and other established musculoskeletal indications where shockwave may complement rehabilitation.
Focused shockwave can be particularly useful where greater depth or precision is relevant, including selected tendon insertions, deeper musculoskeletal targets and calcific rotator cuff tendinopathy.
Calcific shoulder is a particularly useful referral pathway because imaging can often define the deposit clearly and help guide treatment selection.

What Happens After You Refer?
We assess the indication, review relevant imaging where available, and determine whether ESWT has a genuine role.
If treatment is appropriate, we select radial or focused delivery according to the presentation.
Shockwave can sit alongside an established rehabilitation programme rather than replacing it.
With appropriate patient consent, we can communicate relevant assessment findings, treatment response, and rehabilitation considerations back to the referring clinician.
If shockwave does not appear appropriate, we will say so.
That may mean recommending further imaging, another clinical pathway, or simply allowing rehabilitation more time to work.
The value of having access to more technology is not using more technology.
It is being able to make a better decision.
